Jane Austen in her book Emma describes Mr. Knightley as being "on the wrong side of thirty-five," yet we come to know what a good person he is and love him anyway. I was thinking of this quote the other day when I was walking Jared in the stroller. It was perfect weather outside--not too hot and not too cold. Yet I couldn't help thinking that it was on the "wrong side" of summer. I much prefer this type of weather when summer is coming closer, not further away. I know that many of you LOVE fall for what it is, but I can't help getting somewhat depressed as it gets colder and darker outside. I have found that one of the only ways to help me feel better is to drown my sorrows in Christmas music. That is why I start listening to Christmas CD's so early in the fall. (No, I haven't pulled them out yet, but if there is another dreary, rainy day soon I just might.)
In an attempt to appreciate fall more, I went over to my mom's house yesterday and had my first experience canning peaches! My mother was so sweet to devote a big chunk of her day (and peaches from the backyard!) to help my meager food storage. I was rather proud of my achievements:
Afterwards, my mom and I celebrated by going to a diner called Shivers to try out their famous banana splits. The inside was decorated with a cute train! I just had to take a picture of Jared sitting on it.

Yeah for canning peaches. I"m so glad that mom can show us all how to do it!
Jenny, you're peaches look awesome. I heard about your crazy allergies to them. Next time, I'd be happy to help you with the itchy part of the peach.
well aren't you a crafty latter-day saint!
the peaches look yummy and the buddy adorable as usual!
This makes me homesick. I can peaches and pears every fall with Greg's mom & I won't get to do it this year because I don't have any of the canning tools! I am hoarding all of last years stash!
Anyway...They look yummy! Good job! Its fun being domestic isn't it!?
Hooray, peaches! They look absolutely lovely. I know what you mean about the wrong side of summer. While I LOVE the perfect temperature days, it gets me gloomy a little inside to think that it'll all be dead and cold really soon. I try to enjoy them one day at a time, though.
Way to go! I'm impressed. Can you teach me to can. I really loved your comment on my dance post. Crazy to think how long ago that was. Great memories!
P.S. I tagged you, check it out on my blog
Nice peaches, Sis. I had to laugh at your comment about "if we have one more dreary, rainy day..." After all, we have only had like two rainy days in the last two months. Apparently two too many for some people. :-)
