I have a lot to catch up on with this blog, but I haven't felt much like blogging lately (life pretty much stinks right now).
However, I did want to ask, "What is your favorite potty training method?" I am going to start potty training the Magpie sometime in February (she will not quite be 3 years old yet), so I want some time to read up on good potty books. When I potty trained Jared I used this book:
I felt like it was moderately successful, but (of course) it still took months for me to not always be stressed about Jared peeing his pants. This method used a doll that peed to demonstrate what happens when the dolly pees in the potty and what happens when the dolly has an accident (the child will practice running to the toilet lots of times from the site of the accident and from other areas of the house.) I liked how it focused on giving treats when the child's pants were dry, NOT when the child performed on the potty. I will probably incorporate elements of this method again, but I am also up for other ideas. So, let me know what YOU like to use!

Consistency and routine. It's really more about me at the beginning until they get it. Then they take over. 'Course mine have all been around three when they do it too.
I've only done it once, and she pretty much trained herself. She was ready (had already gone in the toilet for both on random occasions when she showed interest) so we spent one day in the house with only a t-shirt on - no pants, diaper, or underwear. We practiced running like you mentioned and I had the little potty sitting out in the living room where she could practice sitting on it. She did so good that day that I put her in underwear the next two days, but still stayed home with her and practiced running and was constantly asking her if she needed to go. She was pretty much trained after that (except for at night). When she had a few accidents, we set up a chart where for every day she stayed dry, she earned a sticker and after 5 stickers she got to go to the dollar store and pick out a toy. I like your idea of rewarding dry instead of going on the potty. Good luck!
I can tell you what I did with Colby. He was not quite 2 1/2 when he got potty trained. We watched "Potty Time" four times on our laptop while we were in the bathroom. "Potty Time" is produced by Signing Times (Colby didn't care for sign language and really only signed two signs before he could talk, so don't let that deture you). The other thing I did was I found a list of everything a kid needs to know before they are potty trained (I think on healthychildren.org) and worked on those skills before we started potty training.
