Of course, the most exciting part of July was Jared's birthday. Jared requested a green octopus/snake cake, but after looking up ideas on the internet, I convinced him to just have an octopus cake. I made the cake in an oven-safe bowl, and the tentacles are Twinkies with smarties for the suction cups. Jared was thrilled with how it turned out, despite the frosting dripping down it from my kitchen being too warm.

The cake is so cute! What a fun birthday! The rigatoni looks delicious - I might need to get the recipe... I can't believe he is so big!
What an awesome cake! (Natalie asked me what Twinkies were...I guess we haven't bought them in a really long time!) I love that he tried so hard not to smile during your song, but Alan's harmony was just too much for him :) Happy birthday Jared!
