I have had a couple friends and family members email and ask me how the potty training is going so far. The first 4 or 5 days were emotionally EXHAUSTING for me, and I felt like I was on the verge of tears several times. I was using the book

which was recommended to me by a friend (it also happens to be the book my momma used with her kids!). I liked the most of the book's methods and its emphasis on eventually rewarding the child just for having dry pants and NOT for performing on the potty (at first Jared would squeeze out a few drops and then expect a treat!). However, the "practices" required after the kid has an accident can be exhausting for the parent (especially if your kid has several accidents right in a row.) As a side note, I also didn't like how the book never mentioned teaching your child to wash his or her hands as part of the potty routine. ANYWAY...
Things are getting better everyday. Jared still has an accident once in a while, and there are often several false alarms before he will finally go #2. I'm also still trying to figure out how to keep him dry during nap time. (He is still wearing diapers overnight.) But overall I am pleased with how he is doing. I just need to get daring enough to leave my house more often! Luckily it has been cold and snowy so Jared hasn't been asking to go to the park every day.
Doing his duty. I quickly realized that toys and books were distracting while he was sitting on the potty, so we don't use them there anymore.
Some of Jared's favorite treats hanging in the bathroom
Here are two bonus pictures:

34 weeks! Apparently I haven't gained as much weight as I did when I was pregnant with Jared (and probably won't catch up in the next 6 weeks), although I feel so fat! It's probably since I haven't been retaining as much water like I did when I was pregnant with Jared during the summer time.

yay for going peep in the potty! cant wait to see you guys this weekend
Oooh, way to go with the potty training. I've kind of given up and been lazy. We use pull-ups and if she goes on the potty, great and if she doesn't, oh well. I should be better about it--you're inspiring me. I like how you have the treats hanging in the bathroom--that's a good idea to help inspire potty use!
You look great, Jenny! It's getting so close!! I can't remember if I told you about the baby consignment sale at the Hilltop United Methodist Church in Sandy. It's how I've outfitted my daughter in name brand CUTE clothes for CHEAP for awhile now. Anyway, it's next Friday and Saturday (9th and 10th) starting at 9am. If you want good stuff I suggest you go on Friday first thing. I could even watch Jared for you! Email me if you're interested..
You look great, Jenny! I think I'm that size by 5 months. Good work with the potty training. Keep it up; sounds like you are doing great! I used that same book- recommended to me by my mother in law. (who, by the way, insists my husband was completely potty trained at 17 months- which I think is crazy and not worth it!) Anyway, loved the book, and also found a few alterations I made:)
Congrats on the potty training! It's so crazy how what works for several people may not work for everyone. My aunt has given me some pointers since my mom never potty trained a boy (like putting cheerios in the toilet and having my cousins try to sink them). :)
Lookin' good Bill!
Clever picture of pregnant you.
The hanging treats are HILARIOUS! Does he have to eat them off the string like a donut? :)
You are looking so great! I need to call you someday soon! love you!
